Before letting family and friends know you will be taking part in a clinical study, make sure you are prepared to answer questions such as why you chose to take part in the study. A few points to keep in mind:

  • Choose a space and time you are comfortable with to have such a conversation.
  • Inform them of the potential benefits from receiving treatment.
  • Refer them to any additional resources, like this website, you feel would help in your explanation.

While everyone might not readily agree with your decision, remember the choice is ultimately yours. Talk to your health care provider or your nurse about concerns that you and any others close to you might have.
